Van Cleef & Arpels presents about thirty creations at the fine art and antique fair, TEFAF 2025

10 March 2025

Platinum, turquoises, diamonds necklace, 1955. Heritage Collection. Van Cleef & Arpels.

For the twelfth time, Van Cleef & Arpels is taking part in the Fine Art and Antique Fair TEFAF in Maastricht, a must-attend art market. From March 15th to 20th, connoisseurs and collectors  from around the world will have the opportunity to discover a selection of pieces illustrating the evolution of jewelry making and Van Cleef & Arpels' role in the decorative arts of the 20th century.

For this edition, the Maison presents an ensemble of about thirty creations from its Heritage collection, alongside creative masterpieces (paintings by renowned artists, antiques, decorative arts, etc). Born in 2007, the Heritage collection brings together vintage pieces created by the Maison between the 1920s and 1990s, and intended for sale. Before being included in the collection, each creation is carefully examined by Van Cleef & Arpels' experts.

Some of the pieces on display testify to the savoir-faire and inspiration of Van Cleef & Arpels. To see the entire collection, follow this link.

The 1994 Orsay bracelet displays relatively understated motifs which unfurl with order and symmetry. This structured aesthetic combining diamonds and colored gems is typical of the 1990s, while the savoir-faire employed illustrates the Maison's heritage by using the Mystery Set™ rubis technique. This creation demonstrates how Van Cleef & Arpels draws on its heritage and sources of inspiration, in this case couture, to imagine eclectic works.

At a time when interest in the jewelry arts of the 18th century has been renewed, the Maison's 1955 necklace reflects the growing enthusiasm for historicism. Floral diamond guirlands on the lower part of the choker alternate with seven turquoise cabochons of increasing size, which join in the center of the composition to form a larger turquoise pendant.

Van Cleef & Arpels also counts nature, particularly flora, among its sources of inspiration. Represented since 1907, as the archives attest, the marguerite is regularly reinterpreted as influences change. This clip from 1964 offers a naturalistic vision of the flower, as realistic as possible. Meticulously superposed, the delicate petals seem to be crossed by a gentle breeze. The materials used also reflect the aesthetics of the decade. The white gold or the platinum traditionally used to set diamonds is replaced by the brighter yellow gold. This chromatic choice is recalled by the seven emeralds evoking the flower's stamens. At a time when the duality between daytime jewelry - in yellow gold and colored stones - and evening jewelry - in white gold and precious stones - is asserting itself, this piece seems to break the codes.
