From November 3rd, 2022 to December 12th, the Maison, together with the flower arrangement artist Atsunobu Katagiri, will hold its exhibition "LIGHT OF FLOWERS " at Shimogamo Shrine in Kyoto.
Last spring, the poetic world of calm water and sunlight that highlighted the fresh yet powerful presence of flowers and plant celebrated life in Daikanyama, Tokyo. This fall, the notion of changing season is brought to Shimogama Shrine in Kyoto, Japan.
Discover this exhibition set in three different locations within the Shimogamo Shrine grounds.
In the Tadasunomori forest, a floral installation invites visitors into a poetic world. In the small hall, floral jewelry by Van Cleef & Arpels blooms, retaining its eternal beauty throughout the changing seasons. In the open area by its side, natural flowers submit to the force of seasons, dreaming of the sunlight shining through from under the fallen leaves in the spring.
The head of the Kado Misasagi school, Atsunobu Katagiri was born in Osaka in 1973.
He has been searching and experimenting for a method of expression using the technique of Ikebana, with folklore as a clue, in order to embody the admiration and reverence for plants and nature that human beings have primitively. He handles everything from space set-ups to photography, while he continues to be energetically active mainly in solo exhibitions.
Publications include the photo book “Sacrifice – Dedicated to the Future, Ikebana for Rebirth” (Seigensha 2015). Recent exhibitions include “LIGHT OF FLOWERS Hana no Hikari” (Daikanyama T-SITE GARDEN GALLERY 2021), in collaboration with Van Cleef & Arpels, and international photo exhibition “KYOTOGRAPHIE” (Nijo Castle 2021).
Since its creation in 1906, Van Cleef & Arpels has always stayed close to nature and praised its vitality and beauty. Nature, especially flowers, has been one of its major inspiration from the beginning and still continues to fascinate the Maison.
Regardless of the season, flowers are always in full bloom in the enchanting garden of Van Cleef & Arpels, like the purest violet, gorgeous and elegant peony, cosmos swaying in the breeze, cheerful daisy, delicately blooming Roses de Noël. With this exhibition, Van Cleef & Arpels will showcase its poetic universe of autumn season.
